McDonald's Is Finally Releasing A Mobile App

McDonald's is tired of being the overweight and slightly bumbling great-uncle of fast food. The company has experienced some serious overhauls recently, including getting a new CEO and introducing antibiotic-free chicken. Now, McDonald's just announced that they will finally be releasing a mobile app, which will be available free to download this summer.

"As we look to the future, we recognize the urgent need for a reset in the business, including changing how we think, how we make decisions, and how we organize so we can respond more swiftly to customers' changing needs and the evolving competitive environment," Chief Administrative Officer Pete Bensen said at a UBS conference Thursday. "We are a little late to the game, but we've developed significant resources to stay ahead of the pack."

Bensen wouldn't give specifics on the app's capabilities, but suggested that functionality would differ in different parts of the world. The app will likely include a restaurant locator and mobile payment, as well as promotions, discounts, and customer loyalty programs, particularly for McCafe fans.
