Navigation 2 App Finds Most Popular Pit Stops In The US
Mobile navigation app-maker skobbler has revealed that the top pit stops along the road this summer have been big-brand companies like McDonald's and Starbucks.
The company analyzed usage data from its Navigation 2 app from May to July to find the most-visited pit stops, locations where drivers can pick up supplies, food, fuel, coffee, or find accommodation.
Fast-food chain McDonald's was the most popular place to stop for food, followed by IHOP. When it came to grabbing a cup of joe on the go, travelers sought out Starbucks most often, followed by Dunkin' Donuts.
Some 70 percent of the top 500 GPS searches via skobbler's app were brands, according to Marcus Thielking, co-founder of skobbler.
"When on the road, simplicity is key. People want to find what they're looking for as quickly as possible," said Thielking. "Travelers seek out big brands because they're familiar and easy to identify while on the highway. That familiarity goes a long way when lost or on the hunt for a good pit stop."
For hotels, Holiday Inn was most popular, followed by Hilton Hotels, while Walmart was the winner for supplies, with Target coming in as the runner-up.
