Dip, Eat, Repeat: 9 Healthy Dips to Get Addicted To

Serve your healthy dips with cut-up vegetables and whole-grain chips.

How many times have you said, "I'm just going to have a small snack," only to realize half a bag of potato chips later that you've mindlessly munched your way through more calories than you can count? Snacks can play an important role in a well-balanced diet — by helping you get the nutrients you need and crushing cravings for unhealthy junk foods — but only if you snack smartly.

Whether you're going to a cookout, looking for a midday snack to eat at your desk, or just putting your feet up and relaxing with friends, dip (and a crunchy dipper) always makes the perfect snack. But bagged potato chips, pretzels, and crisps may be loaded with sodium, and store-bought dips can add even more salt to your diet.

If you're looking for a healthy snack that can rival your favorite chips-and-dip duo in terms of taste and texture, we've got a few ideas. These nine dips are bold and flavorful. Serve them with crispy whole-grain chips or crackers or your favorite crudités and you’ll be well on your way to healthy snacking perfection.

Beet Hummus

This delicious dip gets its striking red color from roasted beets. Simply wrap the beets in foil and roast them in the oven until tender. Then blend them with lemon juice, garlic, tahini, and pomegranate molasses for a dip that’s as good to look at as it is to eat.

Edamame Guacamole

This bright green guacamole is creamy and delicious. It has all the flavors of traditional guacamole but gets an extra kick of protein from the edamame.
