Cooking Hacks: Stop Boiling Over Water

Turn your back on that pot of boiling water for one second and it's sure to boil over. This might be a universal law. Distractions are a part of life — when you arrive home after a busy day, getting dinner on the table is just one item on your laundry list of duties, so you can't always closely watch every pot on the stove.

Water boiling over, however, is more than an inconvenience; it's a safety hazard — especially if you have small children or pets running around. To avoid this kitchen danger, Brian Sheehan, host of The Daily Meal Video Network, has a kitchen hack that will keep you safe and your countertops clean.

All you need to prevent this kitchen calamity is a wooden spoon. Simply place the spoon across the top of the pot, and voila! You'll never worry about the water boiling over again. One thing to note: The spoon will weaken over time, so choose a spoon you don't use often.
