Gordon Ramsay's Secret To Mouthwatering Homemade Chocolate Donuts

America loves donuts, and so does Gordon Ramsay. The renowned television chef and restaurateur has shared a bunch of his homemade donut recipes over the years, including one for Nutella-filled donuts, and another for donuts with spicy chocolate dipping sauce. He shared another recipe for chocolate ganache donuts in "100 Recipes To Stake Your Life On," a double-episode feature from his YouTube series, "Ultimate Cookery Course".

In the episode, Ramsay demonstrates the full recipe for these mouthwatering chocolate-filled donuts, which features the addition of one particular ingredient that gives them a satisfyingly sweet and nutty finish. With his spicy chocolate dipping sauce, the focus lies more on the sauce than the donuts themselves, but with his ganache donuts, the chocolate isn't what makes these treats alone so crave-worthy.

So what's the secret addition to Ramsay's chocolate ganache donuts? It's an ingredient that can be found in beer, milkshakes, and a popular bite-size candy.

Ramsay tops the donuts with malt powder

After removing the donuts from the oil, Ramsay sprinkles them with an equal mix of sugar and malt powder before filling them with the chocolate ganache.

If you're a beer drinker, you probably already know that malt is a critical part of the beer brewing process, per The Brew Enthusiast. It's also one of the main ingredients in WHOPPERS Malted Milk Balls, per Hersheyland, but why would you add malt powder to donuts? Go Barley describes the taste of malt as a combination of sweet and nutty flavors including notes of caramel and coffee, making them a great addition to sweet treats like brownies, pancakes, and milkshakes.

But the flavor isn't the only reason to add malt to chocolate donuts. It also offers some health benefits. According to The Associated Press, malt contains antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, and essential amino acids. It can also aid in athletic recovery, boost happiness, and support digestive health.

When topping off Ramsay's chocolate ganache donuts with malt, the naturally sweet and nutty taste complements the refined sugar, resulting in delicious, mouth-watering donuts with some added health benefits.
