What's Cooking On 1060: Wine, Cappelletti, And Gingerbread

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) —  A new restaurant, Aldine, is now open at 1901 Chestnut Street, near Rittenhouse Square.

Chef-owner George Sabatino (top photo) describes the cuisine:

"The menu's broken down between three sections:  it's vegetable, seafood, and meat.  My favorite dish right now is probably a handmade cappelletti, which means 'little hats.'   So, it's ricotta cheese-filled pasta with duck sausage, preserved lemon, and herbs."

"It is the largest charity event for PAFA — the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts," Cox notes.  "All of the proceeds go to student scholarships. It is one of the very few wine auctions in the state.   I think there are only two other wine auctions in the state because of our kind-of-interesting PLCB (Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board) situation."

This coming Monday, November 10th, get a jump-start on the holiday season by checking out gingerbread replicas of historic Philadelphia houses at the Shops at Liberty Place.

"We use candy (with the) gingerbread — all different sorts of mediums, from chocolate to fondant to different types of cookies and different types of sweets.  Anything that's edible, we'll be creating into this house," explains participant Van Earl French Jr.
