Wendy's Launching Ciabatta Bacon Cheeseburger

Wendy's today announced that on Monday, January 27th, locations throughout the country will begin selling their newest menu item: a Ciabatta Bacon Cheeseburger.

Unveiled this afternoon to select press, the new sandwich tops a traditional square patty with applewood-smoked bacon, asiago cheese, chopped roasted tomatoes, mixed spring greens, and rosemary garlic aioli, and is their first major product release since their Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger last year. It's served on a soft toasted ciabatta bun.

We had the opportunity to sample the sandwich, and there wasn't much to complain about. The ciabatta is soft and tasted fresh, the bacon was cooked nicely, the roasted tomato was a nice touch, and the tangy aioli tied everything together nicely.

It's certainly an upscale burger, part of a general movement among fast food chains to appeal to those looking for a slightly higher-end product. Honestly, if you were to replace the patty with one from, say, a bistro, it would be hard to tell that all the other components were from Wendy's.

If you want to try one for yourself, it'll be available nationwide on Monday.
