As the days get warmer, our thoughts turn to enjoying the sunshine and nice weather with a nice trip out of state or even abroad. Hopefully you've already started planning your summer vacation, whether that may be an affordable, family-friendly trip or a more exciting and adventurous getaway. If you're still not sure where to take your summer break, however, it's never a bad idea to take a look at where other travelers are headed.

While you could consider one of the world's fastest-growing tourist spots for your destination, we found that another way  to figure out true summer hot spots is to take a look at hotels. A sure sign that your destination is up-and-coming and worth visiting is the increasing unavailability of a room to stay in. The more people clamoring to visit a place, the more likely you are to find some amazing sights, activities, culture, and cuisine. We took a look at some of the destinations we know to be popular in the summertime and checked TripAdvisor to see which hotels in those cities are the most popular and highly-ranked. We then checked to see whether these hotels were sold out yet during the first week of July when summer travel is at its peak. Unsurprisingly, where we found fully booked hotels, we also found some amazing summer hot spots.

Located just a few miles off the coast of the Italian mainland, Capri is an island getaway known for its scenic beauty and Mediterranean climate. It's especially popular in the summer, which is why many of its top luxury hotels are already selling out their rooms during the height of the season. Make sure you book a stay in one of the island's amazing hotels or resorts for a truly relaxing break.

A small island in the Caribbean, Dominica isn't exactly at the top of the island bucket list, but enough tourists are interested in its gorgeously clear waters and mountain scenery that some of its best hotels no longer have rooms available on some summer dates. There actually aren't many beaches here, and the attraction lies mainly in the island's other natural wonders: rainforests, mountains, hot springs, waterfalls, and more.

One of the safest cities in the world, Slovenia's capital plays host to 14 distinct international festivals each year, as well as countless cultural events from classical music concerts to avant garde art exhibits. The city is full of impressive architecture and beautiful parks, and there are plenty of hotels that still have rooms available, but we wouldn't risk waiting; people are already filling up the top hotels so they can enjoy Ljubljana's impressive architecture and beautiful parks.

After being named a 2019 European Capital of Culture, tourism is booming in the picturesque Italian destination of Matera, a must-visit this year. Located in the southern region of Basilicata, Matera is hosting many events to celebrate this honor, but you'd also do well to visit the caves of Sassi di Matera, which have been inhabited for as long as 9,000 years, and explore the churches carved into the volcanic rock. You can even stay in a cave B&B, especially since some of the more traditional hotels are already sold out on some dates.

One of the most popular Greek islands, it should come as no surprise that Mykonos is starting to see some of its hotels sell out completely. Particularly famous for its nightlife and beaches, Mykonos is an absolutely picturesque destination that also happens to be notably LGBT-friendly.

Ocho Rios is home to some of the best all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, so it's no wonder that some are already fully booked. Swim with dolphins, go river rafting, and form a human chain to keep from falling off the famous Dunn's River Falls. If you don't manage to get a good hotel room, Ocho Rios is also a popular stop on cruise itineraries.

Situated about 50 miles south of the Turkish coast, the island country of Cyprus is a beautiful Mediterranean getaway. The entire city of Paphos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in addition to having been named a European Capital of Culture for 2017. Tourists have already begun to fill up the city's luxury hotels to enjoy Paphos's ancient remains, subtropical climate, and gorgeous scenery. Repeatedly ranked the world's top island by multiple travel publications over the years, the Greek island of Santorini welcomes approximately two million tourists visit every year. Its fame as a breathtakingly romantic getaway is largely thanks to Oia, a town with gorgeous sunsets that are only more stunning when serving as a backdrop for the white buildings and blue domes perched on its seaside cliffs. Lava from the island's volcanoes makes up the sands of its renowned beaches, many of which are varying colors, such as the Black Beach, Red Beach, and White Beach.

Now is the best time to visit Valletta, especially after the city was named a 2018 European Capital of Culture. Many seem to agree, as local hotels book up their summer dates. This melting pot of a city has Roman, Arab, and British influences in its architecture, cuisine, music, and even language, and UNESCO dubbed it "one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world" due to the fact that it has a whopping 320 historical sites in just 136 acres. Sites like Saint John's Co-Cathedral and the Palace of the Grand Masters, which serves as the Maltese parliament building and the office of Malta's president, are must-sees, and when you're not in the mood for a tour, you can always hit the beach.
