Hotels Are Already Fully Booked At These Summer Hot Spots Gallery

As the days get warmer, our thoughts turn to enjoying the sunshine and nice weather with a nice trip out of state or even abroad. Hopefully you've already started planning your summer vacation, whether that may be an affordable, family-friendly trip or a more exciting and adventurous getaway. If you're still not sure where to take your summer break, however, it's never a bad idea to take a look at where other travelers are headed.

While you could consider one of the world's fastest-growing tourist spots for your destination, we found that another way  to figure out true summer hot spots is to take a look at hotels. A sure sign that your destination is up-and-coming and worth visiting is the increasing unavailability of a room to stay in. The more people clamoring to visit a place, the more likely you are to find some amazing sights, activities, culture, and cuisine. We took a look at some of the destinations we know to be popular in the summertime and checked TripAdvisor to see which hotels in those cities are the most popular and highly-ranked. We then checked to see whether these hotels were sold out yet during the first week of July when summer travel is at its peak. Unsurprisingly, where we found fully booked hotels, we also found some amazing summer hot spots.

Bordeaux, France

Bordeaux is a tasty city that you must make sure to visit when you're in France. And if you're going to make that trip, we suggest you book it fast because, while there are still plenty of options in terms of accommodations at the moment, it's clear that more and more people are starting to consider this wine-famous city as a few hotels have started to book up completely. Ruled by England for a few hundred years in the Middle Ages, Bordeaux is a historic city with a bit of an English flair where you can delve into French culture in the form of food, drink, and museums and monuments.

Capri, Italy

Located just a few miles off the coast of the Italian mainland, Capri is an island getaway known for its scenic beauty and Mediterranean climate. It's especially popular in the summer, which is why many of its top luxury hotels are already selling out their rooms during the height of the season. Make sure you book a stay in one of the island's amazing hotels or resorts for a truly relaxing break.

Cartagena, Colombia

Cartagena would be a wonderful introduction to South America, and due to its rise as a destination, many of the city's nicer hotels are already selling out for the summer. Take a walk through the historic old town, where you'll find plenty of Spanish colonial architecture, or simply hit the beach or enjoy the city's impressive restaurant scene.

Dominica

A small island in the Caribbean, Dominica isn't exactly at the top of the island bucket list, but enough tourists are interested in its gorgeously clear waters and mountain scenery that some of its best hotels no longer have rooms available on some summer dates. There actually aren't many beaches here, and the attraction lies mainly in the island's other natural wonders: rainforests, mountains, hot springs, waterfalls, and more.

Greenland

While neighboring Iceland was one of the hottest (if also coldest) destinations of the past few years, Greenland has slowly but surely seen its star rise. This northernmost North American country (yes, it's considered part of that continent geographically) is known for the so-called Big Arctic Five: dog sledding, pioneering people, whales, the northern lights, and ice and snow. Make sure you plan a summer trip soon; many travelers are already booking up rooms so they can enjoy all of this, as well as a unique cuisine, at an island destination that's both relatively undiscovered and ripe for adventure.

Ljubljana, Slovenia

One of the safest cities in the world, Slovenia's capital plays host to 14 distinct international festivals each year, as well as countless cultural events from classical music concerts to avant garde art exhibits. The city is full of impressive architecture and beautiful parks, and there are plenty of hotels that still have rooms available, but we wouldn't risk waiting; people are already filling up the top hotels so they can enjoy Ljubljana's impressive architecture and beautiful parks.

Marrakesh, Morocco

Morocco is definitely one of this year's top destinations, so naturally, some Marrakesh luxury hotels are already booked up. Make sure you get a room for yourself while there's still plenty to choose from so that you can explore the many palaces and street markets of this city, as well as the newly opened Yves Saint Laurent Museum in the former studio and home of the famous designer.

Matera, Italy

After being named a 2019 European Capital of Culture, tourism is booming in the picturesque Italian destination of Matera, a must-visit this year. Located in the southern region of Basilicata, Matera is hosting many events to celebrate this honor, but you'd also do well to visit the caves of Sassi di Matera, which have been inhabited for as long as 9,000 years, and explore the churches carved into the volcanic rock. You can even stay in a cave B&B, especially since some of the more traditional hotels are already sold out on some dates.

Mazatlán, Mexico

Located on the Pacific coast of Mexico, Mazatlán is a resort town known for its miles of beautiful beaches. A party city, there's also plenty of great nightlife in Mazatlán, as well as great restaurants for every budget. Only a few hotels have sold out completely on select summer dates, but this popular destination is bound to see more bookings as summer approaches.

Mykonos, Greece

One of the most popular Greek islands, it should come as no surprise that Mykonos is starting to see some of its hotels sell out completely. Particularly famous for its nightlife and beaches, Mykonos is an absolutely picturesque destination that also happens to be notably LGBT-friendly.

Nantucket, Mass.

The island of Nantucket is a small destination off the coast of Massachusetts, but it has long been a vacation spot for the average Joe as well as upper-class Americans and celebrities. Perfect for a weekend getaway, the island is particularly popular in the summer and hotels are already filling up fast. The marine life of Nantucket can be seen at the local aquarium, and eaten at fantastic seafood restaurants such as the Nantucket Lobster Trap. Nantucket is also an extremely safe destination, and families have been known to allow their children to wander on their own.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Ocho Rios is home to some of the best all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, so it's no wonder that some are already fully booked. Swim with dolphins, go river rafting, and form a human chain to keep from falling off the famous Dunn's River Falls. If you don't manage to get a good hotel room, Ocho Rios is also a popular stop on cruise itineraries.

Oslo, Norway

Oslo can be a pretty expensive destination, but that hasn't kept away the tourists, particularly in the warmer season. There are plenty of lodging options for now, but we're starting to see a few hotels get totally booked as many plan their trips to the Norwegian capital, known for its coffee and impressive architecture, as well as its museums and Nordic food.

Paphos, Cyprus

Situated about 50 miles south of the Turkish coast, the island country of Cyprus is a beautiful Mediterranean getaway. The entire city of Paphos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in addition to having been named a European Capital of Culture for 2017. Tourists have already begun to fill up the city's luxury hotels to enjoy Paphos's ancient remains, subtropical climate, and gorgeous scenery. We recommend a stay at Louis Ledra Beach, one of the best all-inclusive resorts in the world.

Santa Catalina Island, Calif.

Commonly referred to as simply Catalina Island, this group of islands is 22 miles off the coast of Southern California, technically a part of Los Angeles County. We suggest you book as soon as you can if you're considering a trip here, because hotels are filling up at an impressive rate. Both snorkeling and scuba diving are popular endeavors, and Sea Trek is a diving experience where even beginner swimmers can wear high-tech diving helmets for an underwater guided walking tour. If that's too daunting, there are plenty of glass-bottom boat and semi-submarine rides as well. If you're interested in a tour of the wildlife and history on land, there's also a zip line eco-tour available.

Santorini, Greece

Repeatedly ranked the world's top island by multiple travel publications over the years, the Greek island of Santorini welcomes approximately two million tourists visit every year. Its fame as a breathtakingly romantic getaway is largely thanks to Oia, a town with gorgeous sunsets that are only more stunning when serving as a backdrop for the white buildings and blue domes perched on its seaside cliffs. Lava from the island's volcanoes makes up the sands of its renowned beaches, many of which are varying colors, such as the Black Beach, Red Beach, and White Beach.

St. Ives, England

St. Ives is a quaint coastal town in the southwestern English country of Cornwall, known for its beautiful views as well as the arts scene that has thrived here since the 1920s. Despite being a pretty low-key vacation spot, we found that quite a few hotels were selling out on select summer dates, particularly during the height of the season. Explore the crafts shops and art galleries in town, as well as lovely beaches.

Valletta, Malta

Now is the best time to visit Valletta, especially after the city was named a 2018 European Capital of Culture. Many seem to agree, as local hotels book up their summer dates. This melting pot of a city has Roman, Arab, and British influences in its architecture, cuisine, music, and even language, and UNESCO dubbed it "one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world" due to the fact that it has a whopping 320 historical sites in just 136 acres. Sites like Saint John's Co-Cathedral and the Palace of the Grand Masters, which serves as the Maltese parliament building and the office of Malta's president, are must-sees, and when you're not in the mood for a tour, you can always hit the beach.

Zagreb, Croatia

Nearly a million people visit the capital of Croatia every year, particularly for its unique cuisine and culture as well as the city's many museums chronicling the culture and history of not just Zagreb and Croatia but of Europe and the world as well. Particularly well known are the Archaeological Museum, home to some of the rarest ancient objects, and the Museum of Broken Relationships, which examines the heartbreak and emotions that come with failed romantic relationships. Quite a few hotels in Zagreb are filling up fast for the summer, so we suggest you get started on your planning — and make sure to utilize hacks like trying to get hotels to price match and other things your hotel concierge doesn't want you to know.
