Ripert, Bourdain Delve Into Bourdain's Past, Talk About Paula Deen
Sure, you may think you know everything there is to know about Anthony Bourdain, but in the hands of the charming Eric Ripert, we're willing to watch some 20 minutes of them chatting about his past.
In the first episode of Eric Ripert's YouTube show "On the Table," Bourdain drops by to cook up some Portuguese seafood stew, and while "Part One" is interesting, "Part Two" is where all the good stuff is at. At the 1:20 mark, you see several shots of a young Bourdain rocking amazing, shoulder-length hair, and at 2:08 Ripert brings up Bourdain's past drug problems. "I arrived in college at age 17 and was like where is the coke and the acid," Bourdain said. "And that was already fashionable?" Ripert asked.
Bourdain also brings up Paula Deen on his own (shocker) when Ripert asks why Bourdain gets so mad at television personalities. "Maybe I'm having an internal argument with myself when I see someone. Ok, you already got the cookware, and the crummy spice mix, and the branded knives, do you really need like mattresses, all-you-can-eat buffets, and a diabetes medication?" he said. "Maybe it's an argument with myself, why can't I do that, why can't I just endorse a whole bunch of cynical crap?"
Of course, seeing these two interact is particularly sweet, especially when Bourdain admits that there is no competition between the two. "Eric is way, way up there." Also, Ripert shares his knowledge of vocabulary ("You ruminate," he said, instead of Bourdain's chosen word, "fester."), and uses a non-family-friendly word in "Part Three." Watch "Part Two" below.
