Wood Fire Pizza And Cocktails At El Club In Detroit
The newly opened music venue El Club combines live music, homemade pizza, strong drinks, and an outdoor patio under the stars to create the perfect summer chill spot. Nestled in a non-descript strip mall in Detroit's Mexicantown it's easy to miss, but once you discover chef Matt Ziolkowski's unique take on pizza you'll be back for more.
Using a custom Italian hybrid wood and gas-fired oven, chef Ziolkowski aka Pepe Z, steers clear of the traditional "Detroit Style" pizza crust in favor of a thinner, more Neapolitan style base for his ingredients. Everything is made in-house including the mozzarella. Some of the topping combinations include kimchi and egg with just a drizzle of honey, as well as, more traditional options like a Margherita or pepperoni. You can also grab a salad or choose between the tomato soup or fruity gazpacho loaded with melon and zucchini.

The drink menu is as equally creative as the food selection. You can't go wrong ordering the subtly sweet lavender margarita. Another favorite was the Bananarama cocktail, a combination of banana infused Tullamore Dew whiskey, cinnamon syrup, and walnut bitters.
El Club is hoping to finish up the renovation of an old Air Stream trailer sitting on the property so they can add an outdoor bar to the patio.
You can try out the new menu between 5 p.m.-10 p.m. any night El Club is hosting a show. Pizzas range between $9-$13 dollars. El Club is located at 4114 W Vernor Hwy, Detroit, MI.
