In Hollywood, Cleo At The Redbury Is Modern And Nostalgic
Located in the SBE's trendy Redbury Hotel in Hollywood, Cleo restaurant mixes it up in both ambiance and cuisine. It's industrial and modern with high ceilings, an open kitchen, and a young and hip crowd with a bit of old Hollywood glamor including dim lighting, antique furniture, and a variety of black and white photos of actresses. There's both a quiet front dining area and a much louder main dining area and bar.
Chef Daniel Elmaleh's menu is a variety of tapas from Mediterranean areas. The mezzes section includes lamb, chicken, salmon, shrimp and beef kebabs; sausages; from the wood burning oven heirloom carrots, harissa and avocado; eggplant fennel and chili; artichoke, lemon and olives and a variety of dips including babaghanoush, hummus, cucumbers and yogurt and carrot harissa.
Main dishes include lamb and feta sliders, couscous, grilled hanger steak, bone marrow with oxtail, moussakah, lamb shawarma, grilled octopus, daurade and carrots, branzino and duck bastille.
Highlights of the side dishes are the Brussels sprouts with capers and almonds and the Moroccan vegetable tagine. Flatbreads include kale with crème fraiche, seasonal mushroom with provolone, gruyere, potato and artichoke.
The bar serves up a variety of custom cocktails including the vinebury with vodka, basil, elderflower and serrano; the lotus flower with vodka, crushed berries and lemon juice and the Cleo kiss with gin, cucumber, pomegranate juice, prosecco and lime.
Desserts include baklava, flourless chocolate cake, apple strudel and a milk chocolate bar with orange popsicle cream.
