Channel Your Inner Russian With Pierogis And Moscow Mules At Twin Cities' Hammer And Sickle

Amidst the crowds of mid-western bars is a hidden gem with a knock-out menu and late-night happy hour. Hammer and Sickle is located at the heart of Calhoun Square. By day, it's a restaurant serving Russian classics, and by night, it is a popular bar with 2-for-1 Moscow Mule happy hours.

Hammer and Sickle is one of my favorite places in the area, especially because of its stellar happy hour. Whenever I am there, I try a new type of pierogis. My favorite is the classic Polish-style with potato, ground beef, and kraut; I never say no to carbs inside other carbs! My other favorites on the menu during happy hour are the mini reuben sandwiches and the meat platters. During Happy Hour, the "Assorti Meat" plate is only $6 per person and includes a variety of cheeses, meats, and pickled vegetables. It's a perfect sharing plate and goes great with one of their drinks.

When you are here, get ready for a good time! They have over six types of Moscow Mules and an entire array of vodka. On weekends, happy hour from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. and 10 p.m.-12 a.m. so there is no shortage of drinks to try. Even better, ask them for the Russian Roulette Shots. They have two types — the Romashka made with honey, and the Drago made with horseradish and Jagermeister. Choose wisely because if you lose at Russian Roulette, the shot is yours!

Hammer and Sickle has it all it gets lost sometimes amongst the Uptown Taverns and Cowboy Slims, but when you in Calhoun Square, make sure to stop by!
