Atlanta's Newest Distillery, ASW Distillery Is Now Open For Tours And Tastings
ASW Distillery, Atlanta's newest distillery, opened its doors at the end of July for "adult field trips" featuring tours and whiskey tastings in a sleek new space in the new Armour Yards neighborhood. Weekly tours occur Thursday and Friday, 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Take a tour and learn about ASW's Scotch-style distilling processes, which include impressive copper pot stills — the same tools used in Scotland for centuries to craft the flavors most Americans associate with single malt Scotch and, increasingly, high-quality bourbon. Your tour guide will describe the grain-in distillation process (very scientific and precise!), which produces products including a smooth whiskey that mixes well with pretty much anything (American Spirit Whiskey, the original namesake) as well as single malts and multiple bourbons planned later this year. After your tour, try three samples of various whiskeys in the tasting room.
ASW celebrated with a "quiet opening" party at the chic Stave Room event space next to the Distillery featuring the aptly selected local band Quiet Hounds. The event offered cocktails and craft beer, as well as Fox Bros. BBQ, with its new Fox Bros. BBQ Commissary nearby in Armour Yards. Other neighbors include popular Sweetwater Brewery, Project Open Hand, and Georgia Organics, a non-profit organization dedicated to promulgating organic food in Georgia.
Note: situated between Buckhead and Midtown Atlanta, the "Armour Yards Campus" is becoming a destination for the creative community with easy access to the Beltline.
