The Oasis cocktail, inspired by Nevada

The Oasis cocktail, made in honor of the 2012 presidential election's swing states, is inspired by the notorious swing state Nevada. Try it at D.C. hot spot Artbar, at Art Smith's Art and Soul.

Ingredients

  • 3 Chunks of watermelon
  • 2 Ounces Vida Mezcal
  • Fresh lime juice (from 1 whole lime)
  • Splash of simple syrup
  • Mint sprig

Directions

Place watermelon chunks into a Collins glass and set aside. Pour mezcal into a shaker. Add mint and lime, then muddle with mezcal. Add simple syrup and shake. Pour over watermelon chunks in Collins glass to serve.

Cocktail Shopping Tip

Buy your booze in bulk – transfer what you need into smaller bottles to stock your bar – you’ll save money and have enough leftover for your next party.

Cocktail Cooking Tip

Add another layer of flavor to your cocktails by making your own simple syrup – combine equal parts sugar and water with whatever aromatics you like – fresh herbs, whole spices, citrus, or chile peppers – heat to dissolve sugar and strain before using.
