Cheesy Chicken Flautas

These flautas are flat out flantastic

Recipe Courtesy of CHI-CHI'S®

“Flauta” is Spanish for “flute,” but these little rolled tacos are more commonly known in the U.S. as taquitos. Taquitos are usually purchased frozen, in industrial-sized packages from Costco or Sam’s Club, but making them yourself takes no time, and results in a much more satisfying flauta.

For the Cheesy Chicken Flautas

  • 1 Cup shredded cooked chicken breast
  • 1 Cup shredded Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese blend
  • 1 Teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2/3 Cups salsa, such as CHI-CHI'S® Thick & Chunky Salsa Medium
  • 6 (8-inch) Flour tortillas
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Cheesy Chicken Flautas

In medium bowl, stir together chicken, cheese, salsa and cumin; mix well. Spoon chicken mixture evenly down center of each tortilla. Tightly roll tortilla around filling; secure each with wooden pick.

In a large skillet, heat 2 inches oil over medium-high heat until 360ºF. Fry tortillas, three at a time, until crisp and golden brown. Repeat with remaining tortillas. Drain on paper towels; remove wooden picks.

Serve flautas with desired toppings and Mexican condiments such as sour cream, guacamole and salsa.
