Avocado and Bacon Chips

These crunchy, creamy, and slightly salty toasts are easy to throw together for an afternoon snack or for a game day gathering. Serve with margaritas or cold beer.

  • 2 slices bacon
  • 2 round pitas, cut into triangles (see below)
  • Extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1-2 ripe Hass avocados, diced or gently smashed with a fork
  • ½ cup feta cheese, preferably Bulgarian, crumbled with a fork, or more to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste


Heat the broiler to high, or set the oven to 350 degrees. Heat a large pan over medium-high heat and add the bacon. Cook until crisp, turning halfway, about 6-8 minutes. Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate. 

Meanwhile, using kitchen shears, cut each pita in half, then cut 3 triangles from each half. Lightly brush them with olive oil and broil for about 5 minutes on each side, or bake for 6-8 minutes, or until toasted and crisp. 

Cut the cooled bacon into small pieces or tear it up with your hands. Arrange the pita chips on a serving platter, add a few pieces of the diced avocado, a sprinkling of feta cheese, and the bits of bacon. Drizzle with a little olive oil and some black pepper. Serve and enjoy.
