Popular Shoe Company Under Fire For 'Sexist' Ads
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – "It's hunting season. Whether you're looking for Mr. Right or Mr. Right Now, we have a shoe for that."
It's an ad from a popular shoe company, but is it light-hearted fun or outright sexist?
Some customers are calling foul on several "Shoe Occasion" ads posted by popular women's shoe company Nine West.
The advertisements – for "Husband Hunting" and "First Day of Kindergarten" shoes, among others – are part of the company's latest campaign.
On the Nine West website, the text for the "First Day of Kindergarten" shoes reads, "The bus arrives and so do the waterworks. Then it hits you: Mommy now has the weeks off. Wipe those happy-sad tears...We got a shoe for that."
But it's the "Husband Hunting" ad mentioned above and posted on Nine West's Facebook page that is sparking most of the controversy.
"Stupid campaign 9W. Love your shoes but don't patronize your customers by an outdated ideal," one woman posted. "Women are hunting success and goals, dreams and visions. Not husbands."
"Terrible campaign. Stupid and offensive," another person wrote.
Still, others feel those who are offended are being overly sensitive.
"Lighten up ladies!" one person said.
"Seriously people need to calm down," another Facebook user posted.
