Phantom Gourmet: The Rail Trail Flatbread Company In Hudson, Mass.
HUDSON, Mass. (CBS) – Before you even step inside The Rail Trail Flatbread Company in Hudson, Mass., you can see that what they serve here is way more than plain old pizza.
You'll see chefs stretching their dough out in the window, tossing them, topping them and as customers enter the front door, they'll feel like part of the Rail Trail kitchen.
The restaurant features an open atmosphere and lets people feel and see exactly the steps are being taken to make and prepare their dinners.
Most of the meals here come out of Rail Trail's massive, custom made, wood fired oven.
But Rail Trail doesn't just make flatbread in there. They also roast vegetables, bake their own bread, roast ducks, turkeys and chickens in the oven and more.
And while the kitchen does crank out all kinds of creative appetizers and entrees, plus a seriously good burger with a side of hand cut fries, it's the unique flatbreads that are the real star.
Some are topped with fruit, others are smothered in steak, and one even puts a new twist on a BLT sandwich.
The pizza includes crisp bacon, is topped with provolone cheese, corn, and arugula, topped with an avocado lime sour cream. Some fresh sliced tomatoes are also on the pizza, giving the nice bright aromas of a BLT, on a flatbread.
Along with the great food, Rail Trail's bar mixes up custom cocktails and offers twenty craft beers on draft, all in an atmosphere that's comfortable, casual, and friendly to a fault.
"At the end of the day you should feel like you're visiting your friend's, your family's kitchen, and we're kind of hanging around the kitchen, talking about food, laid back, it's got a great great vibe in here," the restaurant's owner said.
