The Perfect Campfire Meal
The Burger:
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 5 minutes
Total time: 10 minutes
Servings: however many burgers your heart (or stomach) desires
Ingredients:
hamburger patty
cheese (optional)
burger fixings (optional)
buns
Directions:
1. Stick hamburger patties on grill portion of the fire pit. Make sure there are hot coals underneath to cook the burgers.
2. Flip burger after about 2 or so minutes and cook for about the same amount of time. Burger will be cooked when it is no longer squishy and easy to flip.
3. Remove from fire, stick on bun, add fixings and enjoy while eyeing your friends' roasting hot dogs.
The hot dog:
Prep Time: 30 seconds
Cook Time: 3-5 minutes
Total Time: 3-5 minutes
Servings: How ever many hot dogs one stomach can hold. Or until you run out.
Ingredients:
hot dog
buns
fixings (optional)
Directions:
1. After sticking hot dog on skewer, hold hot dog over fire and rotate to evenly cook it. There is nothing wrong with nudging your friend's hot dog out to of the way to make room for yours.
2. Eat hot dog.
Banana Boats
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 5 minutes
Total time: 10 minutes
Servings: one nanner or twenty...how many bananas did you purchase.
Ingredients:
banana
marshmallow
chocolate chips
Directions:
1. Cut banana lengthwise and stuff with marshmallow and chocolate chips. Usually 1 marshmallow ripped into quarters fits perfectly.
2. Wrap in foil.
3. Set bananas in fire at the base of the flames, but not directly in the flames. Sing songs, laugh, tell stories while you wait for the banana to cook and the marshmallows and chocolate chips to melt.
4. With tongs, check to see if the banana is soft and remove from fire. DO NOT TOUCH WITH BARE HANDS! You will burn yourself. Unwrap and enjoy.
Cooked Apples
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 5 minutes
Total time: 10 minutes
Servings: depends, how many apples do you have? After a large meal, one apple is the perfect dessert.
Ingredients:
apples
butter
cinnamon
brown sugar
marshmallows (optional)
Directions:
1. Chop apples into quarters and then add butter, cinnamon and brown sugar to taste. If you want to use marshmallows, add them to the pack as well. Wrap in foil, stick in fire and watch it cook. AGAIN, DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT APPLES WHEN TAKING THEM OUT OF THE FIRE.
2. Unwrap and enjoy.
Remember everything tastes better when it's cooked and consumed by a roaring campfire. Don't forget to lock away food in your car if you are camping overnight. You do not want a visit from the local bear family.
