Every woman dreams of her future wedding day, but not every woman dreams in shades of white. With colorful wedding dresses breaking into modern marriage ceremonies, it's no wonder the fashion industry is more than happy to provide avant-garde gowns. Southern California based fashion house, Andre Soriano is bringing in a new wave of luxury bridal with colorful and funky frocks. The dresses break ties with tradition in purple hues, leg baring hemlines and trains longer than Karl Lagerfeld's career. If you prefer your classic colors there's still a few whites in the collection for you, but don't expect simple silhouettes.
Coming from a modest background, Soriano's family moved from the Philippines when he was young; his love of fashion was sparked by his mother's construction of family clothing and drapes. He became vice president of his high school's fashion club, then after graduating, went on to attend San Francisco's Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising to pursue his dreams of designing. After opening his first store and realizing a successful career as a designer, Soriano started giving back to the community. The design house joined nonprofit groups to raise money for HIV/AIDS orphans and local college funds as well as collaborating with San Diego LGBT Pride.
Andre Soriano's line spans from accessories to bridal and everything in between, but as much as we love their cowhide handbags, there's just something about a twenty foot violet train that gets a girl's blood pumping. His inspiration for these dramatic pieces comes from the arts: including theater, painting and high fashion itself. A fan of luxury fashion around the world, Soriano creates his own designs with a striking flair for the avant-garde.
Each dress has a presence on the runway that sort of kicks you in the shins and knocks you down. It's a moment bordering on love or hate—is too gaudy for a wedding dress? Too much color? Too much—everything? Well if you want to look like Cinderella, Vera Wang has an excellent selection of bridal ball gowns just for you. If you want to push the envelope a little and wear your individuality on your sleeve, quite literally, this is your designer. Black roses and sky-high tulle make for a beautiful way to profess your love. And you won't feel any more like a princess than you will walking down the aisle with a candy colored train flowing behind you.
Andre Soriano Bridal Collection is available exclusively by appointment at their San Diego studio or online and is priced from $1200-$7000.
