This Shake Shack Burger Helps Kids Eat Well

Shake Shack and chef Bill Telepan are teaming up to create a specialty mushroom burger to benefit Telepan's nonprofit organization, Wellness in the Schools. All of the proceeds from each burger bought on Saturday, April 15, at the Upper West Side Shake Shack on 366 Columbus Ave. will benefit nutrition and fitness programs for New York City schoolkids.

"We've been longtime admirers of both chef Bill Telepan and Wellness in the Schools, a non-profit that does remarkable work for students in NYC and beyond," said Mark Rosati, culinary director at Shake Shack. "Bill and I had a blast collaborating on this delicious and wholesome mushroom burger, and it was even more rewarding knowing that it was all for a great cause."

The Wellness in the Schools Mushroom Burger costs $6.99 and comprises a flat-top griddled mushroom burger topped with Swiss cheese, pickled maitake aïoli, and crispy shallots.

"I thank our great friends at Shake Shack for supporting Wellness in the Schools and our work bringing healthy food and fitness to public school kids," said Telepan, who serves as executive chef for both Wellness in the Schools and the Midtown restaurant Oceana. "We spent a long time perfecting the recipe, and it is an honor to share it with the Upper West Side — at the very place where we began making an impact more than a decade ago."
