Though Dunkin’ Donuts has not expressly identified it as such, the company’s new “Tomato Mozzarella Supreme Bagel” would appear to be the breakfast chain’s version of a pizza bagel, which is a big deal for anyone who grew up on pizza bagels from a certain brand as an after-school snack.
The nostalgia-inducing new menu item features mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and herbs on top of a plain bagel.
In the words of The Huffington Post, the new Supreme Bagel “tells us one thing: ‘when pizza’s on a bagel, you can have pizza anytime.’”
As The Huffington Post points out, this move not terribly unlike the appropriation of another dessert, “which is most definitely not a Cronut.”
The Tomato Mozzarella Supreme Bagel is available now through early 2015 at select locations. Meanwhile, Dunkin’ Donuts also recently introduced a new chocolate croissant, which is available nationwide at participating locations. Both items have a suggested retail price of $1.79.
