Chipotle Is Closing All ShopHouse Asian Kitchen Locations

On Wednesday, March 9, Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. announced that it will close all 15 locations of ShopHouse Asian Kitchen in Maryland, Illinois, California, and Washington, D.C., effective March 17.

According to Nation's Restaurant News, the company plans to sell the leases of each restaurant location. Chris Arnold, company spokesman, told NRN in an email that the company believes the move is "the right decision at this time."

Arnold says that any current ShopHouse employees will be offered employment at Chipotle and will also be paid for an additional week after the closing.

The company's decision to close the shop follows a series of food safety scandals and decline in sales, Eater reported.

Despite the end of ShopHouse, Chipotle still has two additional fast-casual concepts running: Tasty Made, a burger restaurant based in Ohio, and Pizzeria Locale, which has expanded to seven locations.
