Washington Redskins Coach Joe Barry Drinks 10 Cups Of Coffee A Day

It takes a lot of energy to coach a professional football team, and one coach is taking that challenge head on, by administering that energy to himself directly.

Joe Barry, coach for the Washington Redskins, reportedly drinks 10 cups of coffee a day, plus some Red Bull for good measure. "I'll chug coffee" approximately 60 seconds after getting out of bed, Barry told The Washington Post.

In fact, during a follow-up with ESPN, Barry seems to have suggested that his coffee habit might even exceed 10 cups of day. "I'm like, yeah. I'm talking between the time I wake up and noon," the coach told ESPN. "That's a long time."

The habit began when he was a graduate assistant at the University of Southern California in 1995. "When you're a young coach and you're working all night, you have to find something and someone said, 'You better learn to love coffee.'"

As for whether he's open to detoxing, even for a day — don't even think about it.

"I have to get coffee — like Popeye eating spinach," Barry told ESPN. "But I would not want to try to go through a day without it, saying, 'Hey, you know what, tomorrow I'm not going to drink coffee and see how it is.' I'm not going to do that."
