Florida Woman Leaves Children Alone In Car To Drink

A woman in Apopka, Florida, has been arrested for allegedly leaving her 2-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son alone in the car so she could get a drink, according to police.

April Renee King left the children in an SUV on August 9 so she could drink at Froggers Grill & Bar.

Marvell Jackson, a cook at Froggers, told Orlando CBS affiliate WKMG that he noticed the children when the son hit the horn. Jackson told his manager, who called the police. King tried to drive off, but did not go very far. "She got in the car, rode around the block but came back and parked again," Jackson said. "That's when a cop pulled up and she was saying no, she didn't leave her kids in the car."

A witness told WKMG that the kids were left alone in the car with the windows rolled up for about 20 minutes.

Police noted in their report that when they pulled King over, she had red, glassy eyes and slurred speech. King apparently had only one drink, but she also takes Prozac, an anti-depressant drug.

King was released from an alcohol rehab facility in July. Her children have been placed in the custody of a friend, and King has been indefinitely banned from Froggers.
