Lattes are about to get even more Instagrammable. Ripple Maker is a device that prints images and words onto your favorite foam-topped coffee drink. The wifi-enabled countertop device prints images in less than 10 seconds using patented printing technology. The ‘ripples’ themselves are created with a small amount of coffee-based extract made from a high-quality mix of Arabica and Robusta coffee beans, which contains no sugar, preservatives, or artificial ingredients, according to the company’s website. Ripple Maker creations are safe to drink and do not affect the flavor or quality of a drink.
Currently, the Ripple Maker is only available for businesses and is designed for use by a barista. Pricing begins at $1299 for the device, and monthly service plans begin at $85/month. Ripple pods, which contain the extract for printing words and images, can create over 1,000 ripples. Pods are not sold individually, but are factored into the monthly service plans, which also include a growing library of printable latte content, and support and service resources.
In addition to the library, businesses can use Ripple Maker’s online tools to create exclusive designs, personalized for their needs. The Coffee Ripples App allows customers to personalize their own lattes by creating a ripple, selecting a ripple from the business’ library, or uploading an image of their own. The Ripple Maker was named the online winner for Last Gadget Standing at CES 2016, according to Times of Israel.
