Big Apple Barbecue Announces Music Lineup

Big Apple Barbecue Block Party in Madison Square Park, one of the biggest lip-smacking barbecue feasts in the country, just announced their musical lineup for this year's feast taking place in Madison Square Park on June 7th and 8th. This year's headliners include Lissie on Saturday and JD McPherson on Sunday. Listen to some music and grab some delicious grub (and lots of pork) from BBQ places across the nation like Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Blue Smoke, and Memphis Barbecue Co.

SATURDAY, JUNE 7

1:00pm-2:15pm – THE ROOSEVELTS

The Roosevelts' live show delivers infectious bouts of soulful sing-alongs, gritty rock tunes and slow sway songs. Formed in 2012, on the streets of East Austin TX by James Mason and Jason Kloess, The Roosevelts began as a songbook full of heartfelt, Southern tracks that take the listener down country roads. Their 2013 EP "Cold Sheets", along with high-energy live shows, has gained them national attention, radio play, BMI song writing showcases, Rock Boat tours, and a featured video premiere on CMT.

2:45pm-4:00pm – BLACK TAXI

Black Taxi is one of NYC's most prominent live acts, smashing an anything-goes punk ethos together with pop sensibilities, unparalleled energy, and brilliant songwriting. The result is a raucous stage show, heavy on harmonies, spitfire guitar licks, body paint, and all manner of instrumentation.  Their style has been described varyingly as "grit-pop" or "dance punk", and though their songs hint at the Talking Heads, Cake, and Daft Punk, they are driven by something entirely new and infectious.

4:30pm-5:45pm – LISSIE

Illinois-born/California-resident Lissie is every bit as frank as the songs on "Catching A Tiger," her 2010 debut album. "Catching A Tiger" has sold over 250,000 copies worldwide, been certified Gold in the UK and Norway and led to Paste Magazine naming her Best New Solo Artist. VH1 tapped her as a You Oughta Know artist and she received a Q Awards nomination for Best Breakthrough Artist.

SUNDAY, JUNE 9

1:00pm-2:15pm – RIDERS AGAINST THE STORM

Riders Against the Storm (RAS) is an award-winning husband and wife hip-hop duo composed of Chaka Mpeanaji and Qi Dada. Aside from headlining many shows throughout the country, RAS has opened for national recording acts, including: George Clinton, K'Naan, KRS-ONE, Wu-Tang Clan, Raekwon, Talib Kweli, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), Slick Rick, Nas, Rakim, Damian Marley, ?uestlove (of The Roots), Antibalas, Devin the Dude, The Coup, Michael Franti, Dead Prez, and Kid Sister.

2:45pm-4:00pm – LERA LYNN

Lera Lynn is a Houston native with a strong voice and magnetic stage presence. According to Allen Foster, Examiner.com, "Lera Lynn is in a category all her own. The lush twang of her music tenderly embraces her sublimely emotive and haunting vocals to create a fascinating world akin to that alluring twilight found only at the crossroads just before falling asleep or being fully awake."

4:30pm-5:45pm – JD MCPHERSON

As a visual artist, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, native JD McPherson is well versed in the process of working within clearly defined formal parameters, and he employs a similarly rigorous discipline with his music. His work satisfies traditional American rock 'n' roll and R&B purists while also exhibiting McPherson's rarefied gift for mixing and matching disparate stylistic shapes and textures.
