Murray's Cheese Bar Celebrates Its First Birthday
Murray's Cheese celebrated the beginning of July with a summer kickoff party at their Cheese Bar in New York City's West Village neighborhood on July 1. In addition to celebrating summertime, they were feting the Cheese Bar's first birthday.
In the spirit of the evening, colorful paper birthday hats spotted the restaurant's tables, which were otherwise occupied by an assortment of wines, craft beers, and a truly incredible variety of cheeses. Attendants had the opportunity to chat with some of the cheesemakers who create the products sold at Murray's and to snack on some of their wares. Long wooden tables stretched down the length of the restaurant and were laden with slate boards filled with Murray's Cheese favorites: slices and wedges and rounds of cheese as well as various accompaniments like bowls of dried apricots, slices of crusty local breads, and glass jars of creamed honey and cherry jam.
Particularly memorable were the light but velvety wedges of Coupole, a goat cheese from the Vermont Butter and Cheese Creamery; and Murray's Summer Reserve Comté, which was served with a vanilla-infused syrup and a note warning that "when it's gone, it's gone."
