Marc Summers Talks New Food Network Show Rewrapped
Would you eat a hamburger slider coated in Chips Ahoy cookie crumbs? How about chowing down on a Goldfish-stuffed lobster? These creations may sound unusual, but they're a regular part of the quirky and creative dishes dreamt up by chefs on the new Food Network show Rewrapped, which is hosted by former N'SYNC member Joey Fatone and judged by TV personality Marc Summers.
Each week the contestants have to try and recreate a junk food favorite, ranging from Hostess cupcakes to Spaghetti-o's. Then for the second half of the challenge, they have to repurpose the infamous packaged comfort food they've just re-created and turn it into a recipe. That's the part where the chocolate chip burgers come into play, which, Summers told us, actually tasted pretty delicious.
"We've done something on this show that nobody has done before, they recreate a classic snack food, both the way it looks and the way it tastes and then they do something innovative with it," Summers told The Daily Meal. "I'm looking for creativity: the way it's plated, and if the flavor combinations work. This one person made an eggroll out of a Tastykake, and I thought I'd really order it in a restaurant."
Even though Summers' favorite part of the show is the creative challenge, he said it is fun to try and watch contestants attempt to make their cheese crackers look like a re-creation of Goldfish.
The series does not feature any elimination rounds, meaning that anyone can come from behind to win. Rewrapped premieres tonight at 8:00 pm.
