Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Seven Springs, Pa.

By Jay Lloyd

SEVEN SPRINGS, Pa. (CBS) — The colors of fall are already starting to show in the Allegheny Mountains of western Pennsylvania, and we just returned from a getaway to Seven Springs Mountain Resort.

A top skiing and snowboard destination by winter, Seven Springs is nestled in a mountain setting.  It has four-season activities that range from horseback riding and golf to skeet shooting and dynamic trout fishing.

But for leaf peepers, Anna Weltz of Seven Springs points out, take a scenic chair lift ride to the summit.

"You ride to the top, see the peak, (then) ride back down.  Or ride the Alpine Slide back down," she suggests.

That Alpine Slide, whizzing along like a luge in a banked, twisting track, is a thrill a second.  There's also a soaring zipline adventure.

Later, when it's time for a brew and a unique western Pennsylvania creation, food guru Brian Annapolen offers up the staggeringly huge Bavarian Pretzel.

"Warm, with beautiful dark beer mustard," he notes.  "Just great stuff."
