Teen Explorer Jade Hameister Shuts Down Internet Trolls By Making A Sandwich At The South Pole

Jade Hameister is an extremely impressive person. The 16-year-old is the youngest person in history to pull off the "polar hat-trick," which means skiing to the North Pole, the South Pole, and crossing Greenland–the second largest body of ice on the planet–on skis. She's passionate about fighting climate change, and she's working on a book about her expeditions. In spite of all her accomplishments, Hameister has attracted negative attention from Internet commenters When Internet trolls told her to get in the kitchen and make a sandwich, she actually made one and told them to come and get it.

According to CNN, after becoming the youngest person to ski to the North Pole, Hameister delivered a TEDx talk about her experiences, and about encouraging girls to follow their dreams. Many people found Hameister inspiring, but Hameister also received several insulting messages and sexist comments, including multiple people telling her to "make me a sandwich."

Hameister responded by actually making the sandwich, and she took a photo of it next to the geographic South Pole.

"I made you a sandwich (ham & cheese)," she wrote on Facebook. "Now ski 7 days and 600km to the South Pole and you can eat it."

Hameister told CNN that the idea of the sandwich had been a joke the whole trek, but she only decided to actually make it after she got to the South Pole. Considering that she got to the South Pole by skiing 373 miles over the course of 37 days, pulling her own 220-pound sled with her the whole time, it seems unlikely that many of the people criticizing her could do the same. That sandwich probably tasted pretty good. For more excellent sandwiches, check out the 15 best sandwiches in America.
