It's Raining Jelly Bellys For Rick Santorum
Easter has come early for Rick Santorum: the presidential candidate is holding a rally today at the Jelly Belly factory in Fairfield, Calif., plus a $1,000-plate fundraiser in the facilities afterward. What better place to talk foreign policy?
However, he's probably not hosting the events at the factory just because of his love for jelly beans, or his desire to emulate Ronald Reagan and his love for jelly beans. SF Weekly reports on the very, very deep pockets of Jelly Belly execs thatmost likely have Santorum drooling. In 2008, Jelly Belly execs donated nearly $183,000 to Republican campaigns. And the chairman, Herman Rowland, has already donated thousands to Santorum's competitors Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and (former competitor) Rick Perry.
With so many food products bearing his name — the Santorum Salad, the Santorum Cocktail — we're inclined to think there'll soon be a Jelly Belly named after him, too. SFist begs them to not name it after his name's more... popular... definition.
