  • 1 1/2 Cup warm milk (about 110 degrees)
  • 1/3 Cup soft unsalted butter
  • 1/2 Cup light brown or raw sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 Teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 Teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 Teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 3 1/2 to 41/2 cups unbleached flour
  • 1/2 Cup currants
  • 1/2 Cup candied lemon peel or candied citron
  • 2 Tablespoon milk
  • 2 Tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 Cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons heavy cream
