12 Things You Didn't Know About Santa
Some call him Kris Kringle, others know him as St. Nicholas, and of course he often goes by the name of Santa Claus. As familiar as he is to us all, however, it occurred to us that a lot of people really don't know very much about the guy. We wanted to find out more. While Santa himself was too busy to answer our personal questions, we got a lot of the inside scoop from his elves when they dropped off milk and cookies at The Daily Meal for our annual holiday party. They filled us in on everything from his cookie-eating habits to the sources behind the naughty and nice list. Mrs. Claus also spared a minute to tell us Santa’s favorite snacks for the sleigh and what he eats before he leaves the North Pole on Christmas Eve! Hint: it isn’t more cookies.
Santa’s Favorite Milk
We know Santa loves his Christmas cookies, but what is Santa’s favorite milk to pair with his cookies? Almond milk? Whole milk? Chocolate milk?

What is Santa’s Favorite Milk?
After conversing with the top elves, we’ve concluded that Santa’s preference for milk changes depending on the cookies and county he is visiting. For example, Santa loves pairing a cold glass of whole milk with a warm chocolate chip cookie in America, but he also loves pairing strufoli with a freshly brewed cappuccino in Italy, where he enjoys his milk with espresso. He respects all traditions, including pairing vegan cookies with cold almond milk!

What is Santa’s favorite Holiday Drink?
While Santa loves anything rich that tastes like a cookie, his favorite drink is classic Christmas eggnog — after he's finished driving his sleigh, of course. Since Christmas Eve is National Eggnog Day, this is a likely choice for Santa’s favorite. Though no one is sure what the origin of eggnog is, it’s said to be a descendent of the medieval drink called posset, a blend of sweetened and spiced milk curdled with ale or wine.
Mrs. Claus makes Santa a delicious homemade meal that he enjoys with all of his elves on Christmas Eve. Their traditional Christmas Eve dinner consists of a warm roast (no, not venison, which would hit a little too close to home) lots of roasted vegetables, and a green salad to make sure Santa has lots of protein and energy before his long night!
What Do Santa's Magical Reindeer Eat?
Reindeer favorites include grass, shrubbery, birches, mushrooms, and a kind of lichen called reindeer moss, to name a few. His magical reindeer can only fly if they’re full with energy, so make sure to leave out some reindeer feed for Santa next to his cookies!
Does Santa Go on a Diet After Christmas?
Santa, like all of us, is a tad naughty during the holidays and snacks on one too many cookies. Mrs. Claus has him on a strict diet post-Christmas to make sure he fits into his red suit the following year!
Did you ever wonder what Santa wants for Christmas? What does he make for Mrs. Claus and all of the elves in the North Pole?
What does Santa want for Christmas?
Santa, the elves, and Mrs. Claus all want the same thing for Christmas – to make all of the children of the world happy with Christmas cheer. That’s their perfect present!
Naughty and Nice
How exactly does Santa make his definitive list of who is naughty and who is nice? Where does his information come from to make these executive decisions?
How Does Santa Decide Who's Naughty and Nice?
Santa relies on the parents and guardians of the world to send him secret lists of children’s behavior. If you’re worried you’re getting coal in your stocking this year, make sure to be on your best behavior so Santa doesn’t put you on the naughty list.
