Forget The Cake, 7-Eleven Celebrates Its 85th Birthday With Free Slurpees

Today is July 11, and that only means one thing: it's time to go to your nearest 7-Eleven to pick up your free 7.11-ounce Slurpee.

That's right. Free. Just days after the United States celebrated its freedom with barbecues and fireworks, the world's largest convenience store chain reminds us just how good free tastes.

7-Eleven is skipping the cake this year, opting instead to celebrate its 85th anniversary with a much more popular item from its menu — Slurpees. Since being introduced in 1966, 6.5 billion of these sugary icy beverages have been sold worldwide. And now, people will be able to taste the icy refreshment at no cost.

At least 8,000 people are planning on attending this year's free Slurpee extravaganza, according to the company's Facebook page. However, some are sure to be disappointed. The Slurpees are only free while supplies last, and some stores are not even offering anyone free Slurpees. Although the convenience store was the first to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the free Slurpees will only be available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. So hurry. Head to the nearest 7-Eleven, pronto.
