What's Happening In Chicago: July 2016

 

The 4th of July has come and gone, but don't slow down yet. The rest of the month is full of new menus, fun events, and one-night-only specials.

Running of the Bulls Tasting
Salero brings the spirit of the annual Running of the Bulls in Spain to its restaurant with a special menu. Available 7/6 through 7/14, the Running of the Bulls tasting menu will have four courses and be priced at $49 per person. The menu includes a selection of charcuterie, grilled trout with Serrano ham, grilled duck with peaches, and torrijas with stone fruits. Make your reservations through Open Table.

Lunch N' Learn Series
SPiN is offering its Lunch N' Learn Series this July, with sessions available 7/6 through 7/20. Tickets for the sessions are $15 and include a boxed lunch and an hour long ping pong lesson. Chef Justin Carlisle's Takeover
Guest chef Justin Carlisle of Ardent in Milwaukee will be staging a takeover of The Izakaya at Momotaro for one night only. On July 12th at 9:30pm, Chef Carlisle will be serving up pork tonkotsu ramen from his pop-up Red Light Ramen ahead of the opening of a permanent location. Izakaya favorites like fried chicken karaage and sake bombs will also be available alongside this exclusive ramen dish.

Windy City Smokeout
Get the wetnaps and stretchy pants ready. Windy City Smokeout returns with a lineup of 16 of the hottest BBQ spots from across the country. Grab bites from local favorites like Bub City, Smoque, and Lillie's Q, then try some tasty out-of-towners, such as Ubons and Peg Leg Porker. The festival runs from 7/15 to 7/17 and include plenty of live music and craft brews.

Carnivale
Raise your glass for a classic summer beverage at Carnivale. They'll be celebrating National Mojito Day with $8 mojitos from 7/11 to 7/14. On 7/20 sign up for their Carnivale University and learn of to mix a killer mojito while enjoying tasty appetizers from Chef Rodolfo Cuadros. The class runs from 6:30 to 8:30pm and is $35 per person.

Create & Consume
Learn how to make a super summer sangria at Staytion Market & Bar's Create & Consume event on 7/25. Half hour lessons will occur between 6 to 8 p.m. These free classes will show you how to make their popular Summertime Sips Sangria, each session highlighting a different wine. Best part – you get to drink up your freshly mixed sangria!
