What’s Happening in Washington, DC: August 3, 2015

Brews, crabs, and contemporary French cuisine are on our minds this week in the DMV

Sample lagers and ales from locals and from around the brewing map.

Each summer, D.C.’s brewers and eateries roll out the red carpet and welcome people to join them for two celebrated culinary events: DC Beer Week and Restaurant Week. Beer Week brings together all sorts of brew fans, from inked, bearded, flannel shirt-wearing hipsters, to beer geeks, and partygoers who just love beer and stay tuned for more information on Restaurant Week’s offerings.

Crabs and Beer at Quarterdeck
Whether you’re a visitor looking for a quintessential regional dining experience, or a local who just loves Maryland Blue Crabs and beer, the party on August 10 at Quarterdeck in Arlington is where you want to go. While not exactly all inclusive, the entry price of $45 per person covers all-you-can-eat crabs and DC Brau will be pouring $1 drafts and $5 pitchers—it’s still a pretty good price for our inflated market.

Craft BrewHaHa at Old Ebbitt Grill
Summer’s cold brew holiday, DC Beer Week isn’t far off, and Old Ebbitt Grill is once again joining the fun by hosting its insanely popular Craft BrewHaHa. Held in the Atrium of the Old Ebbitt Grill on Saturday, August 15 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., you won’t want to miss this salute to good food and good brew. Nine local chefs will each create an original dish designed to pair with two beers from each of the nine local brewers—all accompanied by the killer soul sounds of Soul Crackers. The cost to attend is $65 per person, all-inclusive, and can be purchased online now.

DC Beer Week 2015
Good beer, good food, the company of fellow beer lovers, and appreciation of this ancient brew is what DC Beer Week is all about. From education seminars on home brewing, to tasting education with a Cicerone, tasting parties and more, August 9 to August 16 is a time to celebrate hops. The schedule of events is growing and you will definitely want to follow the interactive Hot Spots map. Get social and use #DCBW2015 on all your social media.

Foam and Flame Dinner at Bastille
Want to know what to drink this summer? Artisan ales. And if you aren’t sure what they are or how to appreciate them, Bastille restaurant’s Foam and Flame Dinner will put you on the right path. On Wednesday, August 12, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., this ode to summer will feature a four-course menu of contemporary French cuisine paired with four artisanal ales for $99 per person, all-inclusive. You will explore the flavor palates found in fresh seafood and roasted quail dishes along with the nuance of matching cheese with Belgian, saison, and gosse-style ales.
