NYC's Greenwich Village Hotspot Revamps Its Menu For Summer
The Anthony, a restaurant and lounge marrying the gritty, artistic history of New York City's Greenwich Village with its trendy food and nightlife present, has rolled out a few special dishes just in time for summer.
On the ground floor, executive chef Max Renny, formerly of Fatty Crab, offers comfort food such as crispy duck and waffles glazed with a smoked duck-fat maple sauce; the Tony Prime Burger, a Pat LaFrieda Prime Select dry-aged patty topped with creamed spinach, cheese, signature steak sauce and crispy red onions on an Orwashers bun; and crispy pork-topped watermelon served with ginger cilantro dressing, scallion, and sesame.
Desserts by Michelin-starred pastry chef Ashton Warren round out the experience with offerings like "Fruity Pebbles" Citrus Meringue Pie, but we ordered the birthday cake, which, as it turns out, is an entire cake meant for a large group.
As for the aesthetic, on one wall is a collage of photos that pay homage to the history of Greenwich Village in honor of Anthony Lispenard Bleecker, a prominent eighteenth-century entrepreneur who bought property throughout the neighborhood and the namesake of both the restaurant and of Bleecker Street. During our visit, art by Vika Costa was on prominent display in all of its colorful, lacquered glory after the restaurant hosted an art show for her during the week.
You can easily spend two to three hours making your way through a meal here — the later it gets, the more they bump the music, so be sure to come prepared for an all-around good time.
