New York City Wine & Food Festival's Burger Bash
Any passerby was well aware of the party going on at Pier 92's rooftop. After being guided through a maze of bodies you couldn't help but wonder; all this for a burger?
Oh but it was worth it. New York's foodies paid $225 a ticket to sample the best sandwiches in the city. If you thought the highly anticipated New York City's Wine and Food Festivals Burger Bash was just going to have burgers, you'd be sorely mistaken. These restaurants out did themselves with sides like fried macaroni and cheese. Not to be overlooked were the delicious desserts and chocolates from Jacque Torres. And to make the night a little more interesting all guests were invited to vote for their favorite burger of the night. Vendors like Shake Shack created a burger for the occasion which they named the Crackle Shack; a cheeseburger topped with pork cracklings, malt vinegar, and shack sauce. Another vendor that brought an interesting take to the night was Marlowe serving their beef and lamb burger; topped with caramelized onions, bacon, cheddar, and horseradish aioli. Marlowe dished this out with a side of fries, proudly proclaiming that they had brought San Francisco to New York City.
But the people's choice award ultimately went to Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer. Black Tap served a thick kobe beef patty with blue cheese, arugula, and a creamy buttermilk sauce. This burger was truly deserving of its title as favorite of the night. The judges choice went to bBd's (Beers- Burgers- Desserts). bBd's did not disappoint with a double decker burger topped with plenty of onions and pickles. But if getting this wasn't enough, bBd's also served up their garbage fries to complete the meal.
