Group Of Minnesota Lunch Ladies Almost Won $900 Million Powerball
A group of 16 lunch ladies from Buffalo High School in Buffalo, Minnesota, missed out on the $900 million Powerball jackpot by one number. The ladies are taking it in stride, though, as they still won $50,000 from the lottery. All 16 women pooled their money to buy tickets, and ultimately matched four of the five Powerball numbers.
"It's not about the money, we're having a ball," one of the women, Lynnette Neumann. told KARE 11. "All the people and the kids that are so excited for us and congratulating us, and everybody is having so much fun with this, it's just been a lot of fun."
The Buffalo cafeteria workers began playing Powerball in 2003, after another group of 16 Minnesota lunch ladies won the $95 million jackpot. After taxes, each of those 16 women took home approximately $2 million each. Many of the "Happy Huskers," as they called themselves, continued working despite their windfall.
