Does This Meat Prevent Hangovers?

London charcuterie maker Serious Pig has launched a new product that it says will actually prevent hangovers — the "Hangover Cured Snackingham."

"The world's first hangover preventing meat treat," as it's called in a press release from Serious Pig, is "crammed with natural hangover-fighting ingredients" like chile and ginger. The snack is supposed to combat hangover symptoms like nausea, fatigue, and headaches.

For best results, Snackingham should be eaten alongside an alcoholic beverage, Serious Pig says. There's no way of knowing whether it'll work for you unless you try it, but there's probably no better time than the holiday season, when the winter cocktails will be essential to your warmth.

According to Angela Dowden, a U.K.-registered nutritionist enlisted by Serious Pig, the spiced meat product could indeed provide at least some relief from hangover symptoms. "Nibbling on high quality meat protein at the same time as drinking is a really good idea as it's rich in the amino acids you need to make neurotransmitters (messengers that transmit signals throughout the body)," Dowden said.

"Alcohol interferes with the levels of these neurotransmitters, which is one of the reasons we can feel bad after overindulging. Ginger is also a well-known traditional remedy to prevent nausea, whilst chilli is thought to boost levels of feel good endorphins as well as improving circulation, so the body's detoxification process can work optimally."
