Dominique Ansel's Latest Creation: The Gingerbread Pinecone
Chef Dominique Ansel is a very busy man. He churns out scores of Cronuts every morning to keep the hordes of pilgrims who flock to his eponymous New York bakery happy, invents frozen s'mores and a "magic soufflé," drops by Jimmy Fallon's show, and still has time to turn out stunning new creations at a ridiculously fast clip. Case in point? The Gingerbread Pinecone, which he debuted this week as part of a new winter menu.
According to Eater, the new treat is "a moist nutmeg cake filled with speculoos mousse and ginger caramel cream," and it's quite beautiful. Thin slices of chocolate are then stuck into the cake, the whole thing is dusted with powdered sugar, and the end result does resemble a pinecone a bit.
Ansel is certainly not one to rest on his laurels, and he's constantly looking for new inspiration. He's not even content to let the Cronut rest on its laurels: last week he teamed with Shake Shack to release a concrete that was filled with "Cronut Holes," and the line was, of course, ridiculously long.
