Umami Burger's Impossible Burgers Adds Vegan Flavors To The Menu
Umami Burger is well-known for emphasizing the fifth taste ("umami") in its beloved burgers. Recently, the international brand has a brand-new addition to its palate: 100-percent plant-based burgers.
The brand has partnered with Impossible Foods to bring four unique Impossible burgers to the restaurant's menu. sbe Chief Culinary Officer Martin Heireling said these burgers are just the beginning of Umami's upcoming menu expansion.
"What we're always interested in and what I'm always interested is innovation. You'll hear that a lot from us, because Umami is a brand is not just a regular burger. Our customer base wants exciting, new, and different experiences."
And that's why Umami's partnership with Impossible Foods was a perfect fit, Heierling said. Impossible's innovative vegan patties have been praised by vegans and meat eaters alike for its delicious flavor and incredible texture.
Umami has partnered with Impossible for about a year now, since debuting a collaboration with Jaden Smith in late 2017. The Impossible Trio of sliders was conceived by Smith and were a limited time menu offering benefitting hurricane relief efforts.
"The market took a huge liking to it right away and never stopped. It just shot up in our sales like crazy," Heireling said.
Umami Burger's menu now contains four Impossible Burgers. The original Impossible burger has two Impossible Burger patties, caramelized onions, American cheese, miso-mustard, house spread, dill pickles, lettuce, and tomato. three 100-percent plant-based from bun to bun.

The Impossible VBQ burger has an Impossible meat patty on a vegan bun, complimented with an espresso rub, smoky sweet BBQ sauce, coleslaw & thinly sliced jalapeño, topped with grilled onions.
"When you eat it, it's mind-blowing," Heireling said. "Because it's just like a barbecue sandwich. That would be the one that I would say really shows how far you can take this product."
The Impossible Trufflemaker offers an Impossible meat patty on a vegan bun, covered with a truffle fondue, truffle aioli, port wine and truffle glaze topped with curly lettuce and fresh tomato.

But if you've never tried an Impossible Burger before and aren't sure where to start, Heireling suggested that the Impossible Classic is a good place to start. The Impossible Classic is a take on the classic American cheeseburger, made with an Impossible meat patty served on a vegan bun featuring Umami house sauce and American cheese topped with curly lettuce, onion, and tomato.
"It features the profile of the true American hamburger," Heireling said. "It's something we haven't had, to that degree, on the menu before. It's the truest form of the Impossible."
