Tavern On The Green Opens Champagne Garden

From June 1-July 4, New York City's iconic Tavern on the Green restaurant in Central Park will celebrate summer by transforming their cozy outdoor patio into a Bubble Garden – the kind that both mom and baby will love.

This special set up will, of course, feature a selection of champagne cocktails from sparkling Riesling, summer spritzes and to-go style wine in a can. Seasonal small plates and family-friendly garden snacks created by Chef Bill Peet will ensure that the perfect pairing is made. Think smoked salmon salad with caviar, a braised beef short rib sandwiches and tomato flatbreads. Since summer in the park is truly a family affair, the crew at Tavern on the Green has included a kid-focused menu that includes fun and food. Starting with dessert, there will be Tavern funfetti cake pops, and bowls of berries. To snack on, sliders and easy-to-eat sandwiches. As for fun, round paper lanterns, globe string lights, and a bubble machine adorn the garden, for those staying on site and a to-go window is set up for take out orders and a mommy-and-me bubble special, complete with a small bottle of bubbles for kids, and a Ramona spritzer for adults.

A Central Park staple, the historic Tavern on the Green has been capturing the spirit of New York City since 1934. In 2014, co-owners Jim Caiola and David Salama (previously of Beau Monde and L'Etage in Philadelphia) re-opened Tavern with a completely redesigned space and menu that harkens back to the original landmark featuring warm, celebratory dining spaces, seasonal American fare, classic cocktails, and a robust wine list. Jim and David selected Bill Peet (formerly of Asia de Cuba, Café des Artistes & Patroon) as Executive Chef for the revival of Tavern, who has reinvigorated the menu with creative takes on classic dishes. This summer's Bubble Garden is just one of the fun events the Tavern has planned for the year.
