Game Day: Healthy Recipes For Tailgating

Football season is upon us and on game day there's only one thing more important than the final score – the tailgate! We all know that the best tailgates have great food, but many of the classic dishes don't cater to the health conscious fan. This season, Lightlife has shared some of its favorite healthy, plant based recipes perfect for tailgating.

Tired of the classic sausage and peppers? Fire up the grill and layer Smart Dogs and tater tots for a fun, hands-free snack. Sneak in extra nutrients (and flavor!) by adding layers of zucchini and onions!

Winter game days are just around the corner and chili is the perfect dish to keep everyone warm through half time. Make a hearty plant-based chili by simmering onions, peppers, beans, tomatoes and Smart Ground Original over low heat. For a no fuss game day, make a batch the day before and reheat in a slow cooker.

Nothing says football like a cheesy plate of nachos! For a vegetarian version try layering tortilla chips with refried beans, Smart Ground, black beans, corn, cheese, and peppers and baking until the cheese is melted. Don't forget the salsa for dipping!

If you're like us, you can't resist French fries and ketchup, but would like a more nutritious alternative. Simply sauté cornmeal and salt covered Tempeh for your crispy "fries" and pair with a spicy, curry mayonnaise for a great taste made with better-for-you ingredients.
