Fordham University Dining Brings The Farm To Manhattan

Fresh and local produce made its way to Manhattan for a farmers market by Fordham University Dining Services earlier this month. Nearly 100 students, faculty and staff attended the two-hour event.

Sodexo, dining services partner on campus, created the farmers market to showcase the many local products served daily in the dining halls.

Students were interested to learn more about local and sustainable dining initiatives on campus.

"The feedback was overwhelmingly positive with almost every person saying they hoped we were able to do the event again in the future," said Amanda Gonin, unit marketing coordinator, Sodexo Campus Services at Fordham University.

Dining services received accolades on the Fordham University's Facebook and Instagram pages and one student made a Facebook post saying, "Amazing! My roommates and I hope it comes again!"

All produce came through from Baldor which provided information on the local farms from which all the produce came, including Jersey Fresh, Pell Farms, Hudson River Fruit, Latham Farms, Northeast Growers and Satur Farms.

Local produce from these vendors will be featured throughout the year based on seasonal availability.

"What a great way to share our story with the folks at Fordham and to encourage eating local," said Gonin.
