Chocolate Abuelita (Mexican Hot Chocolate)


Warm up to a cup of this Mexican hot chocolate on a cold fall day. It's also perfect to serve as a festive drink in honor of Dia de los Muertos. 


  • 4 Cups whole milk
  • 8 Ounces chocolate, Abuelita Brand®
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 2 Teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 Teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 Pinch of salt
  • 1 Cup water


In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients and place over medium heat, whisking constantly, until hot but not boiling, about 8 minutes.

Serve in a mug with whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon if desired.
