Well, here's some interesting news as we cruise on into March, with the promise of spring and warmer weather well within our grasp: Gosling's rum is going to be releasing a ready-to-drink, canned version of their signature Dark 'n Stormy cocktail.
The Dark 'n Stormy is considered the national drink of Bermuda, and the longstanding rum maker actually holds the registered trademark on the cocktail and its name. That is to say, unless your blend of dark rum, ginger beer, and lime is made with Gosling's rum, it can't technically be called a Dark 'n Stormy (hence why so many variations on the name exist on cocktail menus across the country).
Hoping to target a younger consumer base and jump on the drink's rising popularity in recent years, the brand is planning a test market release of the pre-made, 8.4-ounce canned cocktail. According to a press release, sales of the product — a blend of the brand's Black Seal rum and Stormy ginger beer — have been strong among Bermudian consumers. Said seventh-generation President and CEO Malcolm Gosling, "It was encouraging to hear my fellow Bermudians say that this tastes like a perfectly made Dark 'n Stormy."
Considering how easy the summertime refresher is to whip up, it will be interesting to see how the product will perform. What do you think — would you pick up a four-pack for a poolside get-together?
