Best January Wine Events
While December may have seen a drop in the number of big wine tastings and festivals offered most other months (those pesky holidays seem to have gotten in the way), fear not: January marks not only the dawn of a new year, but the return of a spate of wine tastings. All around the country there are plenty of events at which you can break your 2011 resolutions with gusto.
Around The World in 80 Sips Miami, Jan. 14
Come taste wines from around the globe with us and fellow Miami wine enthusiasts. Enjoy more than 80 different wines plus Artisanal cheese, charcuterie and a very cool crowd.
Pinot Days Southern California, Jan. 15
It's serious Pinot overload — which isn't a bad thing at all. Taste 300 different Pinots from 100 different producers in sunny Santa Monica.
Niagara Ice Wine Festival, Jan. 14-30
Canada? In the middle of winter? It's not as crazy as it sounds. While you might freeze a little during this festival, the ice wine north of the border is likely to keep you nice and warm.
Celebrate Washington Wine Auction, Jan. 22
This auction, for 10 years running, has supported the state university's viticulture and enology program. Help a brilliant kid create the next greatest wine the world's ever seen.
Boston Wine Expo, Jan. 22-23
This is a legendary wine tasting, with all the world's best regions and producers represented. Every year this tasting is big, crowded and incredibly fun. If you're within public-transportation distance of this one, it's not to be skipped.
Union de Grand Crus Tasting, Jan. 22
No Bordeaux geek within a day's driving distance of Santa Monica would miss this chance to get a taste of all the best Bordeaux wines soon to arrive on store shelves.
Key West Wine and Food Festival, Jan. 29
While all the other tourists are fighting over Hemingway's old barstool for a Death in the Afternoon, you can be tasting food and wine at 40 different spots along Duval Street.
Oregon Wine, Food and Brew Festival, Jan. 28-29
Get a taste of all the best Oregon has to offer, especially all things fermented. Chef demonstrations and live entertainment are also on hand.
ZAP Grand Tasting, Jan. 29
This is probably the most highly anticipated tasting in the San Francisco area each year, known for the big, fun crowd that always attends. Carb up for an absolute flood of big, rich, powerful Zins.
