Anheuser-Busch, Oregon Beer Distributors, And The DOJ

A recently proposed stealth acquisition by Anheuser-Busch to purchase Oregon beer distributor Morgan Distributing is part of a national strategy for the largest brewer in the world to control its distributors across the country; it has also garnered attention from public interest antitrust lawyers. The news of the proposed purchase surfaced earlier this month and caused some minor ripples in the industry, mostly because this had been rumored for years and because the majority of the public does not understand the three-tier system that regulates brewers in this country and how it will affect them.
